Boy 

The film is a story about A moari boy who lives in waihau bay. His mother is dead and his dad left. Boy lives with his younger siblings who he makes dinner for them. They live at their grandma’s house. The movie presents boys thoughts about his life but mainly his father when he returns home.

 A character that I found Interesting was Boy. I found him Interesting because he pictured his father as being a role model and a good person. An example of this is when the crazy horses (boys dads gang) were at the bar getting a drink, another gang came and beat them up. Boy pictured his Dad as dancing like michael jackson and beating the other men. Realistically Boys father got beaten up. Boy was always positive thinking about his father but after everything he realised that his Father wasn’t A good person, a person who only cares about himself and not his family. To me boy was a caring kid. He made food for his family and in one part of the film he dragged his goat really far and made a grave for him.

Boy faced many challenges in his early years. He was so excited and hopeful that his father would return home and be the best father he had imagined. Boy looked up to his father by taking his jacket and getting tattoos drawn on him. In the bridge scene when Boy had flashbacks, he realised that his father wasn’t there for there family and his mum wasn’t happy. When Boy realised that his father wasn’t there when rocky (his younger brother) was born he got angry, annoyed and lost all hope in his father. The last thing boy needs is a dead mother and a selfish father. Boy pushed away his family and friends to impress his father and after he realised that his father was a bad person he had no one to go to.

A message that I took from the text was that when you have children be there for them until they grow up. Boy and his brother had a caring mother who passed away when they were young, and a father who left them at young ages. I find it would be hard to grow up with no parents. In my opinion a message that the author was trying to give to the viewers (us) was that how kids make bad situations what they want it to be by picturing something different.

The title of the film ‘Boy’ is the name of the main character. The story line is based on boys life as a young teen and how his parents arent there for their childhood. Having his name in the title of the film directly shows that the movie will be about a boy.

I would recommend this film to anyone who likes a film that shows a lot about a young boy’s life and how he grows up with his grandma and who he makes all his and his family meals. The movie is not and action film, it’s more of a moari culture.
